Today’s tuning is Open C add4 Tuning with the following open string notes:
C G C F G E
This tuning’s open string notes are only slightly different from yesterday’s Open C tuning:
C G C E G E
The song/idea I wrote in this tuning today is called “Unshaken” in the Key of C Major:
Here are the scale notes, numbers and intervals for the C Major scale in Open C add4 (CGCFGE) Tuning:
One thing that keeps guitarists from experimenting and enjoying alternate tunings is that playing them live is an option only if you have multiple guitars on hand, or you take time between each song to change your tuning.
Since we have only 1 string change to switch from yesterday’s Open C Tuning to today’s Open C add4 Tuning, it’s easy to change between these two tunings in a live situation.
Another benefit to using these two tunings is that it’s easier to get comfortable with the note placement, because the tuning only changes slightly.
May these daily alt tunings continue to inspire you as you explore songwriting beyond the limitations of standard tuning. If you’d like to learn more about making alt tuning a part of your songwriting, give me a call at 888-7-GUITAR or reach out to me here.
Until next time…
